Karen Marcela Sierra-Hughes is a Panamanian attorney with a Master’s in Commercial Law and Specialization in Public Law. Before joining GLI, she practiced Law in one of the most prestigious law firms in Panama and was later appointed as Legal Director of the Panama Gaming Control Board. She has been with GLI since 2004, developing new gaming jurisdictions throughout Latin America and the Caribbean while driving GLI’s strategy for both regulatory and business development as well as managing GLI´s service delivery to the region’s operators and suppliers. With her law degree and gaming regulatory experience, one of Sierra-Hughes’s main goals is to help the regions’ government agencies in their efforts to improve the regulatory landscape providing valuable advice that will lead to develop policies, laws and regulations. She is also responsible for all GLI licensing processes throughout the region as well as the GLI brand. She holds education certificates from international organizations including the FBI, UNLV and US Treasury’s OTA. In 2019, Sierra-Hughes received Latin American Gaming Hall of Fame’s prestigious Recognition Award at the 2019 Juegos Miami gaming conference and was listed in the iGaming Business Magazine´s 10 Most Influential Women List. This year she was voted by her industry peers in two categories at the SAGSE Awards, as Top Leader in the Lanbase Gaming Industry and Top Leader in the iGaming Industry. She is a well-known speaker in international events and conferences, and she is regularly featured in international publications and journals.
