A New Year Ahead

January 6, 2025

Welcome to 2025! I hope you have had chance to recharge the batteries over the festive season and are raring to go on what will no doubt be another busy year.

As I take up the reins as IMGL president, I would like to pay tribute to Quirino Mancini, my predecessor, for his sterling service over the past two years. He leaves our organization in good shape and my hope is to build on that work over my term. I am particularly keen to continue to further develop our relationships with regulators from jurisdictions around the world

The first manifestation of that effort will be our joint masterclass with IAGR during ICE Barcelona later this month. Spaces are limited, but I hope to have chance to meet many of you there or at our traditional reception on the Tuesday of that week. We also have our spring conference coming up this April in Vancouver, British Columbia. Ron Segev and his team have been working diligently to put on what is sure to be another great and successful conference. Be sure to register before registration prices go up! You can find conference information on the IMGL website.

Speaking of upcoming events and conference, you will be aware of our bylaws, stressing the need for members to play an active role by attending IMGL events. Many members already do this and I hope reap the benefits as a result, but for those who are less visible, I would encourage you to get involved. Your presence is not only a chance to keep up with international developments in gaming law, but an opportunity to share experiences with other members and enrich the entire organization as a result.

One of the tangible benefits of being an IMGL member is the profile it brings for you and your practice. The redevelopment of our website means that articles in our quarterly magazine receive a long tail of organic traffic providing a platform for your expertise to be recognized. We will also continue to promote your member directory so that regulators and industry executives will quickly be able to enlist qualified gaming lawyers in the many jurisdictions in which they operate.

As president of the IMGL, I take my lead from you, our membership. As I start my term, I would be happy to hear from you with your ideas on where we could take the organization. Do reach out to me with your suggestions, and I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in the upcoming months.

Happy New Year!

– Marc Dunbar, President
